AI Assistants

Use AI agents to speed up your writing workflow

PaperPilot includes two specialized AI agents designed to accelerate your writing workflow.

Meet Your AI Assistants

How They Work

Both agents have access to your project files and can understand the context of your work. They use large language models to provide intelligent assistance.

The agents are complementary - use Research Agent to gather sources, then switch to Writing Agent to incorporate them into your document.

Switching Between Agents

At the top of the chat panel, you'll see tabs to switch between agents:

  • Click Research to activate the Research Agent
  • Click Writing to activate the Writing Agent

The conversation history is preserved when you switch, so you won't lose any context.

Choosing AI Models

PaperPilot supports multiple AI model providers:

  • Google Gemini → Fast and capable general-purpose models
  • OpenAI GPT-5 → Strong reasoning and writing capabilities
  • Groq → Ultra-fast responses for quick iterations

Best Practices

Be Specific

The more context you provide, the better the results. Instead of "write an introduction," try "write a 200-word introduction for my machine learning paper that highlights the gap in current research."

Iterate

AI outputs are starting points. Review, edit, and refine the generated content to match your voice and requirements.

Use Both Agents

Start with Research Agent to gather sources and understand the literature, then switch to Writing Agent to draft and polish your content.
